You tried many times
To get my attention
You comforted me
When I didn’t listen
You guided me
When I resisted
You eventually
Won me over
When I finally
Opened my heart
And just listened. 

Your love
Enveloped me
When we connected
For the first time
It was palpitating
And visceral
As I felt
Goosebumps appear
Up and down my arms. 

Your guidance
Twas’ difficult
To understand
In the moment
But I knew
You had my
Best interests
At hand
So I surrendered
To your love
And followed
It often.

You’re my best friend
You’re my guardian
You’re the person
I long to talk with
Every morning
And every night. 

Thank you for
Being persistent
Thank you for
Showing me happiness
Even when I didn’t
Know you existed
You are my love
You are my life.
