Something More Than Sorrow 1/21/2023

Sitting within
Dazed confusion
As the sounds of grief
Are present
And making noise
Inside my mind.

Feeling uncomfortable
As my heart
Wails loudly
Wondering how to move
Forward
When my body
Wants to wallow
And hide.

Suddenly
Something catches my eye
As a little chipmunk
Scurries
Across the ground.

Smiling sweetly
From inside
Gently comforting
My sadness
For a brief
Time span.

Noticed again
A tiny hummingbird
Wings beating
Quickly
Hoovering in midair
Trying to catch
My attention
And wanting to
Wish me well.

Even in my darkest moments
Nature finds ways
To comfort me
Allowing my heart
To open
So I may feel God’s love
Persuading me
To want
Something more
Than sorrow
In my life.
